Ergonomics, accuracy, and throughput: Why quality teams are turning to cobots
Quality inspection often breaks down due to fatigue and repetition, not lack of standards. Explores how cobots help quality teams improve accuracy, protect inspectors and increase throughput by taking on the most physically demanding inspection tasks.

Humanoids or purpose-built robots: What manufacturers hear when the hype fades
Humanoids are everywhere right now. For manufacturing leaders already under pressure to improve productivity, the question is unavoidable: is this something we should be planning for?

Why direct torque is the missing signal in imitation learning
Imitation learning systems trained only on motion and vision break down when robots make real contact with the world. Direct Torque Control exposes force and physical interaction as first‑class signals, allowing learning models to capture intent, adapt during contact, and transfer more reliably from lab settings to production environments.

Adapting to the messy reality: Why MODEX 2026 was the year of flexible automation
MODEX 2026 made clear that the era of the ‘perfectly programmed grid’ is over. As I spoke with visitors at our booth, a profound shift became clear: companies are increasingly on the search for physical AI and robotics that react on the fly to real-world variability.

MIG Welding and plasma-cutting robots eliminate manual clean-up and double output
Carriere Industrial Supply (CIS) in Sudbury, Canada, produces heavy earth-moving equipment for harsh mining environments.
With large workpieces that are difficult to move and a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment, traditional robots aren’t ideal.
Cobots from Universal Robots now handle plasma cutting and MIG welding tasks, letting CIS bring the robot to the work—rather than the other way around – while eliminating manual cleanup on cut parts, saving 1,000 hours on a single project.

Sanding simplified: How Andrew Pearce Bowls automated sanding tasks with a cobot
Watch how Andrew Pearce Bowls deployed the UR5e collaborative robot from Universal Robots to sand cutting boards. The team developed the application in-house with the UR+ certified Sanding Kit from Robotiq and built the fixturing that enables the UR5e to change its own sandpaper. The cell also includes a V-shaped flipping jig that allows the cobot to flip the board over 45 degrees so it can pick it up and sand the bottom side without any manual intervention.

CNC robot: How a cobot controls entire CNC machining cell at Go Fast Campers
@GFC has deployed a line of collaborative robots from Universal Robots to tend its CNC machines. Watch how the cobot's built-in I/Os allows Go Fast Campers to control all auxiliary systems through the robot program.
As Stephan Morris, COO, says, "This has been incredibly useful for us, as we actuate the vise, the ejector mechanism, the extractor mechanism, the door cylinder that opens and closes the door—all those things are made possible by the UR's easy programming language, and the easy opportunity to just plug in different pins to different pneumatic systems."

Ease of Programming Extends Cobot Use after Drop in Customer Order
Watch how the WST Fab team in Wisconsin worked closely with Universal Robots Certified Systems Integrator, PCC Robotics, to plan for the complete machine tending system. The cell includes the UR10e cobot, end-of-arm tooling, system base, staging for raw materials and finished parts, as well as full integration with the CNC machine. Upon delivery, PCC Robotics ensured that each customer is fully trained, using both the online UR Academy modules as well as onsite instruction. Training that enabled WST Fab to quickly pivot when a big order fell through.
