Official Safety Notice(s) on the bottom of the page

To: Universal Robots Customers of PROFIsafe
From: Universal Robots Global Technical Compliance
Date: 15 October 2024
Subject: SAFETY NOTICE PROFIsafe
www.universal-robots.com/articles/ur/safety/safety-notice-profisafe/

During our on-going quality assurance efforts, a minor issue was discovered relating to the use of:

  • PROFIsafe combined with an external 3-Position Enabling Device
  • PROFIsafe combined with a 3-Position Enabling Teach Pendant (3PE TP).

The issue can inadvertently lead the operator to believe there is no program running even if the robot is in fact being controlled by a program.

The issue does not compromise any of the safety features of our robots. However, it is possible that an operator can be confused about the control of a robot.

This confusion can lead to hazardous situations.

The software versions affected when an external 3PE device, or a 3PE TP, is used are as follows:

  • SW 5.13
  • SW 5.14
  • SW 5.15
  • SW 5.16
  • SW 5.17
  • SW 5.18

SW 5.12 LTS is not affected

WARNING

Injury can result from use of UR robots using PROFIsafe combined with an external 3PE device, or using PROFIsafe combined with a 3PE Teach Pendant and SW 5.13 to 5.18. To prevent this hazardous situation, upgrade the SW to version 5.18.1 or higher.
