Subject: SAFETY NOTICE regarding UR IMMI and EUROMAP 67 products
www.universal-robots.com/articles/ur/safety/product-alert-safety-notice-for-all-ur-immi-and-euromap-products/
Products affected:
106900 e-Series Injection Molding Machine Interface (IMMI) Option
1161XX CB3 with EUROMAP E67 (replace XX with 03 for UR3, 05 for UR5 or 10 for UR10
106800 EUROMAP E67 kit CB3 (includes Bypass plug and cable)
107100 EUROMAP E67 kit CB3.2 (includes Bypass plug and cable)
UR Injection Moulding Machine products (IMMI and EUROMAP 67) have two safety-related interfaces with all other I/O being non-safety signaling. The safety-related inputs from the IMM are emergency stop and safeguard stop. The only IMMI safety-related output is the UR robot stop output. The UR Teach Pendant erroneously shows the MAF (Mould Area Free) interface as safety-related. The manual does not explicitly state that the MAF is not safety-related. If the integrator interpreted the manual to use the MAF for safety, then serious injury or death could happen if a person has a body part in the mould area during mould closure.
The following is required:
- Read the updated documentation to understand that the UR injection moulding interface and EUROMAP 67 products have only 1 safety-related output from the UR robot: Stop (all UR robot stops).
- The moulding machine provides 2 stop outputs through the IMMI/ EUROMAP 67 to the UR robot.
Consult with the injection moulding machine manufacturer for details of their stop outputs and the functional safety specifications.
- The moulding machine provides 2 stop outputs through the IMMI/ EUROMAP 67 to the UR robot.
- The MAF (Mould Area Free) wiring is non-safety signaling ONLY.
Do NOT use the MAF to stop the UR robot or to stop the moulding machine. - UR robots are to be integrated in accordance with ISO 10218-2. UR robots comply with ISO 10218-1.
Injection moulding machines are to be in accordance with ISO 20430.- If a protective device (e.g. light curtain, safety scanner, interlocked guard) is used to protect personnel from risks associated with the application, that protective device MUST be interfaced correctly to the UR robot, the IMM or both in accordance with the outcome of the risk assessment.
- Update to the latest Polyscope software for e-Series and CB3.
- Robots before the CB3 series are no longer supported. If your robot is running software version 1.X, the robot is discontinued and not supported. Refer to the latest CB3 EUROMAP manual for guidance about EUROMAP
- Train personnel that the MAF is NOT to be used for safety-related purposes.
The probability of a serious injury happening is unlikely because the MAF was never intended for safety purposes. If the integration relies on the MAF for safety, serious injury could happen if a person is within the mould area while it closes.
|
WARNING: Serious injury can occur if the MAF non-safety signaling is relied upon for safety purposes.
|
- Review applicable standards, UR documentation, and moulding machine manufacturer’s guidance.
- Review the application risk assessment, the integration and if needed, modify the installation.
- Update Polyscope software.
UR recommends that the application NOT be used until the integration has been reviewed, updated if needed, and validated. As always, proper inspection and maintenance is required as stated in the UR Service Manual.
