All-in-one. And all together more powerful.
ActiNav™ combines intelligent vision, real-time autonomous motion control and Universal Robots’ world-leading cobots to deliver the core of a machine loading system. Whether used for simple bin picking tasks or more complex machine tending applications, ActiNav delivers a solution that’s precise, consistent, intuitive and more agile than ever before.
Plan, pick and place parts with some of the highest accuracy, without collisions and without the need to stop – optimizing machine uptime and boosting productivity.
"The biggest advantage to ActiNav is that it can take randomization of parts being dumped in a bin, and as the bin gets low, a person can just come by and dump some more into the bin and it will keep picking parts. It doesn’t have to be reset, recalibrated—anything. It notices the bin amount changed and it keeps on going."
Zach Northwayco-owner and lead project engineer, Flywheel Supply.
Unmatched precision - even on complex parts
With advanced vision and motion control, ActiNav’s highly pre-integrated system is a game-changer. It addresses three big challenges: working with different objects, achieving consistency and precision.

Our Sophisticated TECHNOLOGY SIMPLIFies your deployment
In the past, loading CNC, assembly or injection mold machines from bins was a difficult task at best. Even with advanced vision systems, it was still a challenge. The most efficient and flexible way to load machines is to pick parts directly out of the bins they’re shipped in, but until now that was nearly impossible. In this webinar you’ll learn about a unique combination of technologies that power ActiNav’s next generation machine loading, delivering precise, consistent and agile picks. If you need unmanned operation, high reliability, flexibility, and simple programming, attend this webinar to learn more.
Make updates fast
Plans change. But ActiNav lets you adapt quickly.
Alter your workcell, bin size or place target in minutes, without changing other sections of the program.
It can be installed next to your existing machines, without changing your factory layout. And, once it’s in, ActiNav can be shown how to run many kinds of parts in the same machine. Adding a new part type only takes a matter of hours, not weeks.
- Designed to fit any workspace
ActiNav has a habit of just… fitting in. It works with any type of gripper, from vacuum, to mechanical fingers, and magnetic. And it’s compatible with many of our related UR+ accessories. On top of all this, it can remember an unlimited amount of pick and place positions.
ActiNav can also maneuver just fine in small spaces. So whatever your workstation looks like, there’ll be a spot for it to call home.

success stories with actinav
3.2 MILLION 3D POINTS IN EVERY SCAN
Thanks to ultra-high resolution sensor technology, ActiNav processes up to 3.2 million 3D points in every scan. This means it can work with complex parts, and a variety of bin sizes.
ACCURATE PATH PLANNING
INTRODUCING THE AMM
Our autonomous motion module (AMM) allows ActiNav to plan the part’s path, so you don’t have to.
The AMM delivers vision processing, collision-free motion planning and real-time robot control – all at once. It selects a robot pose that ensures parts are placed in the same way into a fixture each time. This is not picking and drop, but accurate pick and part-oriented placement.
DETECT PARTS, DAY OR NIGHT
ActiNav’s advanced sensor technology has a high tolerance to a variety of lighting conditions and can detect parts whether they have black, shiny or reflective surfaces. ActiNav combines advanced scanning with high-accuracy CAD-based matching algorithms which means you benefit from accurate part scanning and picking around the clock.
BOOST WORKER FLEXIBILITY WITH AUTOMATION
ActiNav consistently performs to the highest standard – both in and out of the bin. And the entire application sits within the teach pendant, where operators are guided through a six-step setup process.
The result is a smooth user experience, with no robotics or vision expertise required. It even takes care of path programming.
LOW MAINTENANCE. LOW LABOR. BIG RETURN.
You can achieve a typical payback time of less than 18 months on two shift operations with ActiNav.
In the entire deployment, the only part-specific elements are the end effector and CAD file. This means an ActiNav application kit has tremendous versatility to be cost effectively re-deployed to new parts or machines.
Lower maintenance requirements, reduced labor costs and higher rates of productivity. All with next-level accuracy.
20 YEARS OF PATH PLANNING TECHNOLOGY, BUILT-IN
ActiNav combines trusted software and motion control with our world-leading cobots to deliver more advanced machine loading than ever before. The technology is complex, but the programming is simple.
Plan, pick and place parts accurately, without collisions or the need to stop. You can trust the cobot to keep working at its maximum capacity.
ALLIED MOULDED PRODUCTS INC
“ActiNav can pick our parts out of the bin, no matter the orientation, and place them on the machine correctly. To have the robot do it and not have to use direct labor in that situation has been a big benefit.” Nate Gilbert, Manufacturing engineer technician
THE SHORT STORY
Allied Moulded is a full-service molding operation manufacturing non-metallic electrical boxes and enclosures. Facing significant challenges due to labor shortages, the Ohio-based company chose Universal Robots’ new ActiNav system to automate an important bin-picking application. The deployment enabled Allied Moulded to reduce overtime expenses, move existing workers to more ergonomic tasks and improve consistency in the production process.
“This solution allows us to have highly-trained people operating three or four robots, enabling us to use those people in other applications where they’re adding more value.” Alex Corckran, President and CEO.
THE SHORT STORY
PrecisionForm, a market leader in small custom metal parts, was challenged to automate the task of picking parts in deep bins and inserting them into a CNC machine. The company deployed Universal Robots’ ActiNav system for flexible machine loading, enabling them to boost competitiveness, overcome labor challenges, empower their workforce and extend the lifespan of older equipment.

CONSISTENCY WHERE IT MATTERS MOST
ActiNav optimizes motion trajectories to avoid collisions, joint limits and singularities. It’s built to be relied upon.
With 20 years of path planning technology built in, ActiNav explores multiple paths to multiple parts in every cycle. Advanced multi-threading means it’s actually processing future potential paths while executing a current path and driving the robot motion. Scanning at each cycle ensures parts don’t shift and that each pick is accurate, so it will keep operating, even overnight, and without interventions.
EFFICIENT PATH PLANNING. ON REPEAT.
ActiNav works out the best way to pick and place. Thanks to its ‘Free Spin Pick’ function, a single trained pick means ActiNav will consider a full 360°of tool rotation. This means fewer lines of programming and leads to better bin pick percentage and cycle time performance.
Built-in cycle metrics, visualizer and a predefined program structure make sure the system performs in the best way for its application, consistently.
TECHNOLOGY THAT ADJUSTS TO KEEP PRODUCTION ON TRACK
With ActiNav, there’s no need to program every step of the process or rely on pre-programmed waypoints. Simply teach the system what you’d like it to do, and it will work out the best way to do it.
Our Autonomous Motion Module (AMM) is at the core, to deliver higher machine uptime with real-time robot control. It takes care of motion automatically, enabling the cobot to operate intuitively, and at its optimum.
ActiNav also automatically exploits part and end effector symmetry to expand the range of path options for moving the part, instinctively adapting to perform at its best.
EASY TO DEPLOY, QUICK TO PERFORM
Two hours or less is all it takes to program ActiNav and start transforming your business. With no need to laboriously define the robot’s path into and out of the bin, ActiNav computes the fastest and most efficient path to grab the part and pull it from the bin without collisions. Typical ActiNav programs also require less waypoint programming, so operating the system is just as intuitive as the technology itself.
It can learn a complete program in as few as 12 lines of programming - significantly less than the hundreds needed by its competitors. The only thing you need to interact with is the teach pendant.
