Universal Robots have a robust interface to allow PLCs to control the robot while programs are running. However, if a robot program is not loaded or the program is stopped due to a safety condition, a dedicated function block (and lots of additional code) is needed on the PLC side.   The Robot27 Connect UR Cap allows a PLC to run dashboard commands on the robot (such as play, stop, pause, restart safety, etc) even while the robot program is paused, stopped, or not loaded with no additional PLC programming. This software can start automatically each time the robot is turned on by saving the started connection to the default installation file for the robot. By writing specific integer values to an input integer register on the robot, the PLC is able to issue commands while programs are not running. It also allows for the same PLC to obtain and monitor the state of the “is remote” status of the robot by reading a specific Boolean output register on the robot

Robot27 Operator’s user-friendly graphical interface provides machine operators with an easy-to-use screen that allows them to execute various pre-defined robot programs and functions without programming knowledge or touching the Teach Pendant. Robot27 Operator is designed to work seamlessly with any Universal Robot—right out of the box, with minimal setup. The system also allows operators to modify program parameters, such as quantity, size, etc., on the fly, allowing them to adjust tasks to meet changing production needs. The display also shows errors the operator can easily clear, including protective stops, which will display in popups during robot operation. Robot27 Operator clearly separates the job of robot programmer and machine operator. Through a password-protected interface, the programmer can quickly link the UR PolyScope programs that the operator will be able to run. There are graphics for verification of what each program will do, operator notes, program parameters, and pre-defined error messages for each program. No coding, long manuals to study, or classes to attend are required. The UR Teach Pendant can be locked, and the operator can confidently go to work.
