About the UR Series

What is the UR Series?
The UR Series is a family of high performance collaborative industrial robots developed by Universal Robots and brought to market in 2022 with the release of the UR20. Currently It includes the UR8 Long, UR15, UR20 and UR30.

What are the key specifications of the UR Series robots?
The UR Series family of collaborative robots offers three different payload and reach options including heavy payload and long reach versions. Each model has a specified payload in both standard and top down only configurations.

Standard configurations

  • UR8 Long: 8 kg (17.6 lbs) in at 1750 mm (68.9 in) reach
  • UR15: 15 kg (33.06 lbs) in at 1300 mm (51.18 in) reach
  • UR20: 20 kg (44.09 lbs) at 1750 mm (68.9 in) reach
  • UR30: 30 kg (66.13 lbs) at 1300 mm (51.18 in) reach

Top down only configurations

  • UR8 Long: 10 kg (22 lbs) at 1750 mm (68.9 in) reach
  • UR15: 17.5 kg (38.58 lbs) in at 1300 mm (51.18 in) reach
  • UR20: 25 kg (55.1 lbs) at 1750 mm (68.9 in) reach
  • UR30: 35 kg (77.1 lbs) at 1300 mm (51.18 in) reach

*Please consult the payload curves for information on payload and reach with different center of gravity offsets.

What makes the UR Series higher performance?
The UR Series of robots is built on an advanced joint architecture that allows the robots to lift heavier payloads across longer distances at higher speeds. Tapered tubing, a configurable light ring and updated joint housing and sealings are also found on the UR Series.

Are UR Series robots TÜV certified?
Yes, the UR Series are certified EN ISO 13849-1, Cat. 3 PLd and ISO 10218-1 by TÜV Nord.

Are UR Series robots UL1740 certified?
Yes. The UR Series of robots is UL1740 certified meeting the guidelines set forth by the American National Standards Institute.

Are UR Series robots cleanroom certified?
We are currently undergoing third party certification testing and can provide our own internal test results as desired.

Are UR Series robots IP certified?
Yes, the UR Series robots meet the IP65 standard set forth by the International Electrical Commission as defined in IEC 60529 or the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization EN 60529.

Are there variants of UR Series for OEM applications?
Yes. We offer an OEM variant that features a control box that is purpose-built for easy integration with other machinery or cabinets.

Where can I learn more about the technical specifications of the UR Series?
We collected all technical specifications in the collective data sheet or within each model’s data sheet.

Tool flange

What are the key specifications of tool flange of the UR Series robots?

UR20 and UR30: EN ISO-9409-1-80-6-M8
UR15 and UR8 Long: ISO 9409-1-50-4-M6

Safety

Are the UR Series robots as safe as the e-Series?

UR robots are Power and Force Limited (PFL) robots which are often called "collaborative robots" or “cobots”. PFL robots are industrial robots with added safety functions to enable the development of safe applications. But only the application of a robot can be judged to be safe or unsafe. A PFL robot can be used in applications where the robot, end-effector or workpiece is allowed to contact a person – but these applications require limiting clamping situation and limiting the energy transfer to the person to protect them from injury. UR PFL robots provide a suite of safety functions to limit both motion and the energy transfer. A risk assessment is required for all robot applications – collaborative and non-collaborative. The risk assessment determines what safeguarding and what safety functions are needed. The integration is required to comply to ISO 10218-2 for both collaborative and non-collaborative applications.

Teach Pendant

Will the 3PE teach pendant (TP) be used on the arms in the UR Series?
Yes. A 3PE TP will be delivered as standard TP in the next revision of the robot safety standards (ISO 10218).

What is the difference between the 3PE TP and the standard teach pendant?
First, a 3PE TP will be required in the next revision of the robot safety standards (ISO 10218). We at UR think that a 3PE is a necessity when working with heavy payload, long reach collaborative robots (as the UR Series ones), the 3PE TP ensures optimal safety, when working closely to the robot.
