Accelerating automation adoption
Explore how the proven Siemens × Universal Robots × MiR parternship is powering real-world robotics innovation in manufacturing

Transforming manufacturing, one factory at a time
At Universal Robots (UR) and MiR, collaboration drives progress - but scale delivers impact. Our partnership with Siemens has already proven its value in factories like Erlangen, where cobots and autonomous mobile robots are transforming production. Now, the opportunity is clear: by expanding this success across more Siemens plants, we can unlock even greater flexibility, efficiency, and ROI. Together, we’re building the future of manufacturing - one factory at a time.
Why speed of automation matters to Siemens right now
Siemens is leading automation change – including new digital initiatives – where time-to-value has never been more crucial. By deploying Universal Robots’ intuitive collaborative robots (cobots) and Mobile Industrial Robots’ (MiR) autonomous mobile platforms, Siemens sites can:
- Reduce integration overhead: Seamless UR + Siemens SRCI integration, plus the new MiR SIMOVE/VDA 5050 Adapter, significantly shortens setup time.
- Gain tangible ROI fast: Launch pilot cells in weeks, not months, to show immediate throughput gains and free staff from mundane tasks.
- Empower existing teams: With minimal programming or robotics knowledge required, Siemens can upskill its current workforce rather than hire external specialists.

A strong partnership
With hundreds of UR cobots deployed across Siemens plants – including the newly named WEF Digital Lighthouse in Erlangen – we’re proud to power Siemens’ journey toward a more agile, automated future.
Erlangen case study: Over 70 UR cobots at Erlangen are among the technologies boosting productivity by 69% and reducing energy consumption by 42%.
Where collaborative robots and AMRs deliver measurable impact
Spotlight on MxD
In August 2024, Teradyne Robotics and Siemens announced a strategic collaboration for the Siemens Experience Center at MxD in Chicago, a leading non-profit hub for digital manufacturing and cybersecurity in the U.S. As a founding member of MxD, Siemens focuses on industry-specific digital threads and AI-driven robotics use cases to showcase the future of automation.

Expanding our collaboration with MiR and SIMOVE
Building on the success with UR cobots, Siemens is now collaborating to integrate MiR’s autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). Recently, MiR launched its new VDA 5050 Adapter, bridging AMRs to third-party fleet management systems – including Siemens SIMOVE – via a common control interface. This means:
- Interoperability across diverse AMR fleets
- Reduced integration complexity by aligning to the VDA 5050 open standard
- Unified traffic management for multiple vehicle types (AMRs, forklifts, and more) in one environment
Together, MiR, UR, and Siemens SIMOVE give manufacturers unprecedented flexibility to move materials, collaborate with cobots, and scale automation within a single, cohesive system.

Innovating together
At UR and MiR, we see true innovation happening through open collaboration. That’s why we’ve worked closely with Siemens to ensure seamless integration across their SIMATIC portfolio, including SRCI, SIMOVE, and TIA Portal. The result? Faster deployments, minimal programming overhead, and rapid time-to-ROI that helps Siemens plants stay competitive in a rapidly changing market.
- UR’s maturity in the Siemens ecosystem. First to introduce a broader version of SRCI in collaborative robotics, underscoring our commitment.
- Single, unified interface. Plan, program, and operate robots (UR + MiR) within the same Siemens environment.
- Future-proof integration. Scale from pilot cells to full production lines, with minimal rework or extra safety barriers.
