The need for real-world training of mechatronic technicians has grown considerably over the past few years. Střední Škola Technická in Přerov, Czech Republic, has implemented a UR5 robot solution to train the schools aspiring technicians, setters and programmers with the cutting-edge technology they can expect to find in their future workplaces.
Programming a robot has traditionally been an abstract affair, and finding and training robot operators was a time-consuming undertaking. Střední škola Technická in Přerov, Czech Republic, is on the cutting-edge of robotics and wanted to bring the new generation of collaborative robots into the classrooms to speed up the training and development of the next generation of robot operators.
Vlasta Kajnarová, EngineerThe safety of our students is our top priority. Unlike with previous generations of robots, students can work in close proximity of robot arm manufactured by Universal Robots.
In order to make the education and training of students engaging, fun and interactive, Střední škola Technická implemented a solution based on a UR5 robot. The UR5 robot’s characteristics were perfect for teaching the students the principles of robotics, while the innovative design and streamlined look of the cobot caught the eye of any tech-lover in the school.
Future mechatronic technicians work hands-on with the robot two hours a week. First they learn the basics of programming, and then they turn their attention to educational tasks where they work in groups to solve problems and create processes. There are no longer any protective cages or strictly separated workspaces and so on to deal with. "When entering the tasks, students routinely guide the robot with their hands. The excellent thing is the robot could be used literally the next day after the installation and a short training." says Vlasta Kajnarová, Engineer.
