Universal Robots at the AUTOMATICA
Nominated for the IERA award
Universal Robots is participating in the AUTOMATICA trade fair taking place in Munich from 22 to 25 May 2012. Interested parties can catch up with the wide range of applications covered by the UR10 and UR5 lightweight robots as well as with the new process software at Stand 224 in Hall B3. “Future trends in robotics” is the theme of the AUTOMATICA Forum on the fourth day of the fair, and Universal Robots will be giving a presentation showing the wide range of potential applications of its portfolio. The company will also be delivering a presentation as part of the final of the IERA Award in Room A31/32, Hall A3, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on 23 May.
The Invention and Entrepreneurship Award in Robotics and Automation (IERA) 2012 is the eighth time this award has been presented for groundbreaking robotics technology The sponsors of the prize - the International Federation of Robotics and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society – have selected five companies from among all applicants who will present the story of how they developed their ideas into marketable products at the AUTOMATICA. All the finalists share the ability to turn value-enhancing ideas into world-class products and to apply innovative robotics to a wide range of highly divergent industries.
“Being nominated for the IERA Award is recognition for our product and for our idea of producing a robot that is affordable for everyone and intuitive to use,” says Thomas Visti, Vice President at Universal Robots. The Awards Committee will choose the winner and present the award following the event.
AUTOMATICA Forum – Robots as safe helpers
The AUTOMATICA Forum, held on all four days of the exhibition, will provide information on new areas of application in automation. The fourth day, 25 May, is dedicated to the theme “Future trends in robotics” and will focus on robots as lightweight, safe and mobile helpers. As a groundbreaker in the field of “human-robot cooperation”, Universal Robots, together with its customer BJ Gear, a globally successful manufacturer of transmission systems, will be reporting on the use and integration of UR robots in the latter’s production processes. The presentation will focus on clearly demonstrating how flexible lightweight robots can ensure effective manufacturing processes and where the benefits for the user are. The presentation will be taking place between 10.45 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. on the fourth day of the trade fair in the Communication Area in Hall B1. The speakers, Bjørn Sommer, Plant Manager at BJ Gear, and Thomas Visti, Vice President at Universal Robots, will subsequently be available to answer any questions. “We are looking forward to presenting a wide range of products at the AUTOMATICA 2012,” explains Thomas Visti. “The AUTOMATICA Forum gives us an ideal platform to show that humans and robots already work together in close proximity today.”
The AUTOMATICA is being held for the fifth time and is the leading European innovation platform for robotics and automation. In 2010, 30,643 trade visitors took the opportunity to exchange ideas with 700 exhibitors from 42 countries.
